About the SAM RG
The Scalable Adaptive Multicast (SAM) Research Group investigates multicast protocols including application layer multicast (ALM), overlay multicast (OM), native multicast, and hybrid techniques with the goal of greater scalabality and adaptability in terms of numbers of multicast groups and network resources. It also provides input for standardization efforts within the IETF. For more information, please read the SAM RG charter.

SAM RG is an Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) Research Group. The IRTF focuses on longer term research issues related to the Internet while the parallel organization, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), focuses on the issues of engineering and standards making.

IRTF Research Groups guidelines and procedures are described in RFC 2014 (BCP 8).
